The real reason your practice isn’t growing!
So many Chiropractors started off once upon a time with all kinds of fire in their belly. In Chiropractic college, you were so excited and you intended to start your own practice. Then something happened. Either you did start your own practice and it isn’t what you imagined or you settled to be an associate.
Everyone gets scared when you are doing something for the first time and most Chiropractic Colleges don’t adequately prepare you to start your own practice. As a result, so many Chiropractors default and become associates. It’s not by choice, it’s because you don’t think you have a choice.
If you aren't growing, regardless of where you find yourself in practice today, you’re probably moving towards letting practice members, other people, or external factors tell you what to do. As a result, your income is suffering. You, and only you, are in charge of your growth. Not outside circumstances, regardless of how pandemic they may be.
Based on helping over a thousand Chiropractors, I’m here to tell you that you’ve got to switch your mindset from associate to owner immediately. Even if you are an associate, you can increase your value by getting new patients into the office. Take more initiative and responsibility. If you are stagnant in a practice you own, don’t coast or let external factors cause you to stop growing. It’s so easy to become a people pleaser or to let others tell you what to do, etc. Even if you own and operate your own practice, in a way, if you continue doing these things you are acting like and developing an associate mindset.
If you want to grow, you must take responsibility for growth. Nobody else is going to do it for you. Having an associate mindset you do all the doctor duties but are unconcerned about growth. If you don’t have the proper tools for growth, like an ostrich you hide your head in the sand and don’t concern yourself with the profitability of your office. There is nothing right or wrong with this; however, you will be economically handicapped and restricted as a result.
Every Chiropractor has this fire in their gut. The big question to ask yourself is: Is it too late to rekindle the fire so I can move toward owning my own office and reaping the incredible rewards of ownership? Has the opportunity to run your own practice passed you by?
Truth be told, the financial reality of being an associate is bleak. Just taking care of your debt of student loans, etc. erases your associate earnings and then some. Asking your spouse to help you pay down your debt strains any relationship.
